Cercis canadensis

This is the original Eastern Redbud that produced the 'Northern Herald' variety we know today. It is not only a spectacular native ornamental specimen but it also supports a numerous amount of butterflies and bee species. The pink flowers that appear in spring are edible and can be used to make infusions for teas and household items. Redbuds grow well in clay soils that have good drainage and can even grow where soils are compacted.
